What does the USDA organic logo on our products mean?
When a product is labelled USDA organic, it means that the product has been certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as meeting certain standards for organic farming and production. These standards include requirements for soil quality,
animal welfare, and the use of pesticides and fertilizers.
Products that are labelled USDA organic is a guarantee to consumers that the product has been produced using environmentally friendly and sustainable farming practices.
According to the United States Department of
Agriculture (2016), organic crop certification means the farmers and producers:
- Do not use prohibited substances, such as synthetic fertilizers and sewage sludge, on the land during production and for the 3 years prior to production
- Use organic seeds and planting stock when available
- Do not use genetically modified ingredients or
ionizing radiation - Receive annual inspections
- Only use approved materials
